Network Server

ColourSpace has an in-built Network Server for integration with a number of external TPGs, including Light Illusion's own Calibration Client, Java App TPG, and LightSpace Connect for closed loop display profiling.

The description here uses Light Illusion's own Java App TPG, which can be downloaded via Customer Downloads.

  • ColourSpace INF/XPT/PRO/CAL/LTE & HTX/HTP/HTL & DPS/ZRO
  • Closed Loop Profiling
  • Multiple TPG Options
  • Open Network Protocol

The Network Protocol is openly available, and can also be downloaded via Customer Downloads, and includes examples for communication, including setting patch colour - both foreground and background - as well as bit depth, patch size and position.

ColourSpace Integration

The Network Server can be found within the Hardware Options menu, accessed via the Profiling window, and can be integrated with an external TPG that uses the Light Illusion Network Protocol.
(Note: some 3rd party developers have referred to this open protocol as being Resolve's protocol - that is is incorrect, and any use of the protocol should correctly reference Light Illusion.)

Third Party TPGs that use the Network Protocol include CalibMate, LightSpace Connect, PGenerator.

For this example the Light Illusion Java App TPG will be used, and is hosted on a separate PC/Mac.
The Java App TPG can be downloaded via the Customer Downloads button, above.

For a User Guide on the workflow used for display calibration see the 3D LUT Calibration guide, combined with the specific Network Server information contained within this page.

Network Server

Initial Setup

  • Connect the Java App TPG to the ColourSpace PC via a network cable
  • Open the Java App TPG, and open ColourSpace
  • Set the desired set-up options via the Settings menu, as required
Note: While the Network Protocol can be set to any bit-depth within Settings, the Calibration Client Java App is limited to 8-bit operation as it is Java based.
  • Open a ColourSpace Profiling window, select Hardware Options, and select Network Server from the Hardware drop-down list
  • Select Connect, and the IP address and Port details of ColourSpace will populate the info boxes within Network Server Options
  • If the Java App TPG is set to Find ColourSpace Automatically, and is on the same network, it will connect automatically
Alternatively, enter the required IP address
  • Using Calibration Patches select the desired patch option to use for profiling
(If possible, Auto uses the patch settings defined within the ColourSpace Settings window, or else the closest available patch settings)
Note: The keyboard 'O' key can be used within the Manual Measure and Hardware menus to quickly Disable/Enable the TPG

Profiling Operation

To use the Java App TPG as a Patch Generator with ColourSpace navigate to the desired profiling mode - Manual Measure or Display Characterisation.

The output of the Java App TPG will mimic the colour displayed, using the patch settings defined via the Hardware Options and Settings menus.

Profiling can then be performed as normal, using the probe connected to ColourSpace, with the Java App TPG displaying the required patches on the display being profiled.

LUT Use

After profiling, a Calibration LUT can be generated as normal within ColourSpace LUT Tools, and used where required, such as within a LUT box, or uploaded directly into a suitable display, or within a grading system, etc.
